Raphinha scored a brilliant goal in Leeds’ 1-0 win over Everton last weekend and showed the reason why the White signed him from Rennes in the summer.

The Brazilian has taken some time to settle down and earn a starting spot in the Leeds team, but it seems he has managed to cement his place in the eleven for now.

Dorigo believes that the winger’s great quality is that he can make things happen when he is on the ball.

But he is firmly of the view that Raphinha still needs to improve defensively in order to be able to completely earn Bielsa’s trust going forward.

Dorigo said on LUTV: “Any time he gets an opportunity, things happen.

“We look at him and ‘give him the ball and something will happen’.

“Couple of times I saw against Arsenal that defensively he still has got a little bit of work to do to get Marcelo Bielsa’s complete blessing.

“[Kieran] Tierney two or three times ran behind him and when you are man-to-man you can’t allow that.

“At Everton he was fantastic, he did track back but more importantly he was a threat going forward, whether it was on the right, in the middle or the left-hand side.”

Raphinha has replaced Helder Costa in the team for now, but Dorigo believes the former Wolves winger will get his chance soon and stressed that the competition places is a good thing for the Whites.

“I think Costa played 45 minutes at Palace, Marcelo Bielsa decided to make a change and Raphinha has got his opportunity and he has grabbed it with both hands.

“Helder Costa is a fantastic player as well and when he comes in again, no doubt he will do really well.

“We need competition for places everywhere.”

Rennes snapped Raphinha up from Sporting Lisbon and he had only been at the French side for one season before Leeds came calling.
