A Tammy Abraham goal allowed Chelsea to narrowly beat the Championship side 1-0 and make it to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
But Tuchel was not happy with the performance and did say after the game that his side showed a lack of courage at Oakwell against a spirited a Barnsley team.
Waddle lavished praise on the Championship side and insisted that they asked tough questions from a side who had world-class players in the team on Wednesday night.
The former midfielder said on BBC Radio 5 live: “Barnsley can get a lot of plaudits and a pat on the back.
“They played ever so well.
“They asked a lot of questions of a Chelsea team that had made changes but still had a lot of internationals.”
But he stressed that Tuchel must be fuming about the performance and believes some of the players he gave a chance to against Barnsley will be axed for the next Chelsea game, which comes against Newcastle.
“I don’t think the Chelsea manager will be pleased.
“I am sure he will have words.
“Some players will not be playing the next game, I am sure.”
Chelsea will be back in action on Monday night when they host Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge.
