Koch linked up with Bielsa last summer, arriving at Elland Road from German side Freiburg and continued his development under the Argentine over the course of the season gone by.

The defender has swapped the whites of Leeds for the black and white of his country Germany, as he is part of Joachim Low’s squad in the European Championship.

Koch is participating in his first major international tournament for his country and revealed Whites boss Bielsa has advised him to have fun and to enjoy the continental competition.

Having learned under Bielsa’s tutelage for a season in Yorkshire, Koch added that his boss’ ability to analyse game is something that has stood out.

When asked about club boss Bielsa, Koch told the German football association: “Marcelo Bielsa and Christian Streich [my former coach at SC Freiburg] are similar in that they are both obsessed with football.

“The way he analyses games is incredible and the things he picks up on usually end up happening.

“The advice he gave me for the Euros was to have fun and to enjoy the tournament.”

Koch has so far earned eight international caps and will be hoping to add to that over the summer.
