The Gers open their Europa league campaign by welcoming Ligue 1 giants Lyon to Ibrox on Thursday in a mouth-watering encounter.

However, Les Gones could find themselves going into the clash without three players owing to Scottish government red list rules.

Lyon’s Bruno Guimaraes and Lucas Paqueta travelled to Brazil on international duty, while forward Tino Kadewere went to his homeland Zimbabwe; all three countries are on the Scottish red list.

The Scottish government have told Lyon the trio of Paqueta, Kadewere and Guimaraes will not be allowed to enter the country to take on Rangers next week, forcing the French to contact UEFA to come up with a solution.

And according to French sports daily L’Equipe, Lyon are optimistic UEFA can find a solution by working in conjunction with the Scottish government to allow the Les Gones trio to play at Ibrox.

The Ligue 1 side intend to fully comply with Scottish government’s health mandates and are counting on receiving an exemption for their players.

All eyes will be on whether Lyon will have a full squad to select from come Thursday when they take on the Scottish giants.
