The Tyneside-based club have been on the lookout for a new manager since relieving Steve Bruce of his duties last month.

Newcastle are said to have held talks with former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca, while Lucien Favre is also claimed to be under consideration for the job.

However, it has emerged that Villarreal coach Emery is now the favourite to take charge as Newcastle’s new manager.

The St. James’ Park outfit are prepared to pay the Spanish top flight side a huge fee to acquire Emery’s services this month.

It is said that Newcastle are pushing to get a deal for Emery over the line soon as they want to present him as their boss during the forthcoming international break.

The Spanish tactician is claimed to be keen to prove himself in the Premier League, having had a largely disappointing stint with Arsenal before.

With Newcastle pushing to announce Emery as their new boss during the international break, Graeme Jones could be in line to lead the team against Brighton this weekend.
