Ferguson has been appointed as caretaker manager at Everton following the club’s decision to sack Rafael Benitez last weekend.

The 50-year-old held the interim role before Carlo Ancelotti was appointed as Everton boss and served on the coaching staff of the Italian and Benitez.

Everton are looking to hold interviews with Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney, and former Fenerbahce coach Vitor Pereira is also on their radar.

But there have been calls for Everton to give Ferguson the job full-time and it has been claimed that the former striker is keen.

The 50-year-old would welcome a chance to manage Everton at least until the end of the season.

He knows the club inside and out and results under his interim charge were positive before Ancelotti arrived.

Everton are believed to be in favour of bringing in someone experienced given their current predicament.

Ferguson is happy to be the caretaker until a new manager arrives but is willing to do the job until the end of the season.
