The Magpies showed great ambition in the winter window but missed out on some of their top targets over last month.

But Newcastle still spent more than £90m in the recently-concluded transfer window and brought in five players in Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Dan Burn, Bruno Guimaraes and Matt Targett.

Apart from Targett, the other four are on permanent deals and there are questions marks on what could happen with them if Newcastle get relegated.

Newcastle are still in the bottom three but it has been claimed that there are no relegation clauses in their contracts.

There were claims that players such as Trippier were negotiating clauses if Newcastle get relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season.

But it has been claimed that there are no such clauses and Newcastle will have control of their futures even if they are relegated.

It remains to be seen how things pan out for a marquee signing like Guimaraes if Newcastle are in the Championship next season.
