The midfielder made a deadline day permanent move from Tottenham to Everton on a free transfer in one of the most shocking moves of the last transfer window.

The 25-year-old became a target for Everton once Frank Lampard became the manager and the former Chelsea boss is confident of getting the best out of him.

But there were rumours on deadline day that Newcastle were trying to hijack Everton’s move for Alli.

However, it has been claimed that Newcastle only made a speculative enquiry for Alli in the final hours of the window.

And by that time, the midfielder was undergoing his medical at Everton and was convinced about working under Lampard.

Newcastle missed out on the signatures of Jesse Lingard and Hugo Ekitike on deadline day.

Alli was considered but it has been claimed that a concerted effort to hijack his move to Everton was never made by the Magpies.
