The Bluebirds have won their last two games, in the Championship, opening up a nine-point gap over the relegation zone, and they will be heading into the game at the weekend looking to make it three wins in a row.
Manager Jurgen Klopp’s side are already in the final of the EFL Cup, but the Reds will be anxious to make the fifth round in the FA Cup for only the second time since the 2016/17 season.
McGuinness admitted that they are aware of the strength of the Reds but insisted that the Bluebirds are ready to make a game out of it on Sunday.
Coming off the back of two consecutive wins, having done so only the second time this season, the defender revealed that the Bluebirds have received a confidence boost.
“They have a lot of strength and depth in their squad, and we know that”, McGuinness said in a press conference before the game against Liverpool.
“We’re looking forward to seeing what the level is like.
“It’s going to be a big occasion, but at the end of the day it’s a football match, and we can’t lose sight of that.
“It’s nice to go out there and play against a top side, as I said, but it’s still another game.
“The FA Cup is a competition that we’d like to do well in.
“Obviously the league is where our main focus is, and going off the back of two back-to-back good results for us it actually helps us going into this game, and we’re feeling confident.”
Cardiff defeated the Reds both times the sides met in the FA Cup but those meetings happened in the early part of the last century and the Reds will be determined to get their first win against the Bluebirds in the competition come Sunday.
