The Gers went into the game on Sunday under pressure after losing 3-0 to Celtic at Parkhead, which saw them drop down to second in the Scottish Premiership standings.

However, Rangers managed to alleviate some of the pressure by producing a commanding performance in a 5-0 win over Hearts at Ibrox.

Ferguson insisted that the performance Rangers produced was exactly what Van Bronckhorst would have wanted to see after the disappointing defeat in the Old Firm derby.

The Rangers legend also feels that it was important that the team produced such a performance at home and believes a result like that shows that they can handle the pressure of a tight title race.

The former midfielder said on the Go Radio Football Show: “That’s what you want to see from a team who were so poor on Wednesday night.

“You wanted to know how they respond and they responded in the right manner.

“They showed grit and determination and that’s what you can ask as a manager.

“And the supporters would have been going to Ibrox on Sunday, demanding that.

“Fair play to them, it shows me that they can handle a bit of pressure when it’s put on them.”

Rangers will look to keep the momentum going when they host Hibernian on Wednesday night.
