Ramsey has started just one game since joining Rangers on loan, with Giovanni van Bronckhorst insisting that the Welshman needs some more time to build his fitness.

The midfielder was missing from the squad in Rangers’ 1-1 draw at Dundee United due to a knock, but Ferguson is baffled about what is going on with him at the moment.

He stressed that there was a real excitement around Ramsey when he joined but he has hardly played for Rangers since joining the club.

Ferguson admitted that he was really looking forward to watching Rangers against Dundee United on Sunday and is confused with what is going on with his fitness at the moment.

The Rangers legend said on the Go Radio Football Show: “Aaron Ramsey was missing with a slight knock and it was surprising.

“He is a player everybody was excited about when he signed for Rangers but we have hardly seen him.

“60 minutes against Annan, 15 minutes against Hibs and Hearts and a bit of the game in Dortmund.

“I was expecting him to start [against Dundee United], I was looking forward to seeing him play.

“I don’t know what’s going on there.”

It remains to be seen whether Ramsey will be in the Rangers squad when they host Borussia Dortmund on Thursday night.
