Newcastle are on a run of six-game unbeaten run and 12 points from these games have pushed them above the relegation zone.

They are 17th in the Premier League table and the prospect of them surviving in the top flight has improved over the last few weeks.

Their improved defensive performances have played a big role in reviving their campaign and the addition of new signings in Burn and Targett have made an impact on their backline.

Howe is delighted with the way his two new signings have played since joining the club and the way they have fitted in.

The Newcastle boss is also happy with the composure and leadership that Burn has brought to the defence.

Howe said in a press conference: “I think Dan’s fitted in really well, as has Matt.

“They’ve defended very well, and helped our team.

“Dan’s used the ball very well, very composed.

“He’s got leadership qualities.”

Newcastle will hope to keep the momentum going when they take an away trip to an out-of-form Brentford on Saturday.
