The Magpies have been working for several months to bring in a director of football to oversee their football operations since the new owners took charge of the club towards the end of last year.

Ashworth has been the club’s candidate to take up that role and a deal is in place for him to become the director of football at Newcastle.

The 50-year-old left Brighton last month and is expected to take up his role at Newcastle soon.

But it has been claimed that there is still no agreement over a deal between the two clubs for Ashworth’s move.

He is waiting on the sidelines for Newcastle to agree on a settlement with Brighton for him to officially join the Magpies.

A deal is still not agreed but Newcastle are calm about the situation and are confident of sorting it out soon.

Brighton are also expecting to get the deal over the line soon as well, with Ashworth ready to become the Newcastle director of football.
