Koch arrived at Leeds in the summer of 2020, but has missed huge chunks of games in each of his first two Premier League campaigns owing to injuries.
The 25-year-old did clock up game time on a regular basis under Jesse Marsch in the latter stage of last season, but it was mainly as either a defensive midfielder or at right-back, where Leeds were shorthanded, and not in his natural centre-back role
However, Koch is looking forward to the new season and is determined to become central to Marsch’s plans at Elland Road; he stressed he is always working hard to improve as a player.
Koch added that Leeds are aware of what he can bring to the table as a player while he is also confident in his abilities on the pitch.
Asked what role he wants to play under Marsch in the upcoming season, Koch told German daily Bild: “This is my third season here at Leeds.
“I know what I can give the team and the team know what they have in me.
“I want to continue to be an important part of the team under the new coach and play a central role.
“I’m always working on myself to constantly improve.”
Koch will be competing for a spot in the heart of defence next season with the likes of Liam Cooper, Diego Llorente and Pascal Struijk, while young centre-back Charlie Cresswell has left the club on loan.
