Their paths first crossed in New York where they worked together for two seasons before Marsch became Ralf Rangnick’s assistant at RB Leipzig in the summer of 2018.

Sharp spent the second half of the 2021/22 season as a match analyst at Manchester United and has now been reunited with Marsch at Elland Road.

Marsch confirmed that though also a video analyst, he saw Sharp as an on-the-field coach first and foremost, with their time together in New York key to building the understanding they now enjoy.

Ewan, he last came from his time at Man U, he worked with me in New York, he understands me very clearly, the philosophy I want to play and he’s an on-the-field coach, but also a video analyst”, Marsch was quoted as saying by Leeds Live.

Marsch will be looking to put last season’s relegation battle behind him and start with a clean slate as he continues the reshuffle of his backroom with the addition of new faces, some of whom he worked with before, in keeping with the style of play he wants to enforce.

During the last campaign, as many as 13 first team players were absent through injury for lengthy spells as the intense Murderball training under Marcelo Bielsa took its toll.

The Whites finished last season in 17th place, securing Premier League football for the next campaign only via a late Jack Harrison winner away to Brentford on the final matchday of the season.
