Coady joined the Toffees on a season-long in the recently concluded transfer window on loan having lost his place in the team at Wolves under Bruno Lage.

The centre-back has quickly nailed down a spot under Frank Lampard and played a key role in helping Everton register a draw against rivals Liverpool in the Merseyside derby at the weekend.

Former top flight star Crooks has admitted that he does not understand why Wolves let go of a player of Coady’s characteristics, given the authoritative presence he was for them in their backline.

Crooks added that Coady has adapted quickly to life at Goodison Park and is now becoming a commanding influence on the pitch for Everton.

“This lad [Coady] has adjusted to his new environment very quickly”, Crooks wrote in his BBC Sport column.

“At Wolves, Coady looked commanding and I still can’t quite work out why they let him go.

“However, he has slotted into the Everton back four very nicely and is starting to look as authoritative as he did when he was playing for the Wanderers.

“The defender was unlucky to have a goal ruled out for offside against Liverpool by the video assistant referee and, had it stood, an Everton victory would not have been unreasonable.”

Everton will return to Premier League action on Sunday when they travel to the capital to take on Arsenal.
