The American international signed a five-year deal at Elland Road earlier this summer, moving to Leeds United from RB Leipzig and reuniting with his former boss, Jesse Marsch.
Adams has quickly established himself in Leeds’ midfield and has featured in the Whites’ six league games this season.
The 23-year-old is of the view that the team that dominate midfield has the potential to determine the result of the game and declared his goal to become a midfielder who can dictate the flow of the game in midfield for Leeds.
“Just in general, in football, they say a lot of times that a game is determined through the midfield”, Adams said on the Men In Blazers podcast.
“If you win the midfield [battle] then you often have the potential to win games.
“Dominating the midfield for me is an important task in the team.
“I want to be the guy that sets the tone and is able to control the game through the midfield.
“I feel like another step in my development is set the tempo, set the tone, everything in how I play and I think I have the ability to do that.”
Leeds United have picked up only one point from their last three league matches and they will take on Aston Villa on Sunday.
