Manchester City comfortably beat Leeds 3-1 at Elland Road on Wednesday night to cut Arsenal’s lead at the top of the league table to five points.

Leeds were never in the game and Pascal Struijk’s 73rd-minute goal was nothing but a consolation for Jesse Marsch’s men.

Walton stressed that Leeds were not embarrassed by the reigning Premier League champions by any stretch of the imagination but he was still not happy with what he saw from his former team.

He conceded that Leeds showed no aggression or any effort to upset Manchester City’s flow and put their defenders under any sort of pressure during the 90 minutes at Elland Road.

The former White admitted that there were moments of intensity, but by that time the game was more or less done.

Walton said on BBC Radio Leeds: “3-1 is a 3-1 loss but I don’t think we haven’t been embarrassed.

“It’s not necessarily the result as we are not going to win every game, but I just felt, we rolled over and had our bellies tickled at times.

“We didn’t lay a glove on them, we didn’t go with any aggression to start with, we didn’t look to get bodies forward, we didn’t look to upset Manchester City’s flow, we didn’t look to put defenders under pressure and make their defenders defend in any way shape or form.

“I think that was the most disappointing thing.

“At 2-0, we rallied a little bit, the third goal was again poor, we rallied again towards the end when few of the younger boys came on but by that time the game was done.”

Leeds remain 15th in the Premier League table with just two points separating them from the teams in the relegation zone.
