Wober played a big part in Leeds getting a point from their 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

The Austrian was in place to stop Alejandro Garnacho from scoring with a goal-line clearance in the first half and made several blocks to keep the Manchester United attackers at bay.

Newsome admitted that Wober was brilliant at Old Trafford and stressed the importance of his ability to get in good positions to defend well inside the penalty box.

The former Leeds defender is also a fan of the centre-back’s ability to read the game well and his penchant for giving it his all when he is on the pitch.

Newsome said on BBC Radio Leeds: “I thought Wober was great.

“What I like about him is that he puts himself in good positions to defend.

“When the ball is out wide, he gets a good body shape, puts himself into the correct position and does the same when the ball is over the top.

“He reads the game well, he is brave and he leaves everything out there.

“You can’t ask for anymore more from a centre-back and I thought he was outstanding.”

Wober joined Leeds from Red Bull Salzburg in the winter transfer window and has made an immediate impact.
