The Reds have had a frustrating last few weeks in the transfer window as both Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia snubbed them to join Chelsea.

However, they are in pole position to land Stuttgart’s Wataru Endo for the defensive midfielder role soon.

Now with a midfielder set to be secured, the Reds were claimed to have targeted Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisbon’s centre-back Inacio as a potential option.

And they are set to face another disappointment in their Inacio pursuit as the Portuguese international is set to sign a contract extension with his club.

It has been suggested that the player and the club agreed to the new contract extension in the last few hours; his new release clause will be worth €60m.

The 21-year-old left-footed central defender made 52 appearances for the Portuguese giants last season where he made seven goal contributions as well.

Now it remains to be seen if the Merseyside outfit will move forward with their interest in Inacio before the transfer window closes.
