Hibernian signed the young forward in January last year and he has scored three times in 32 appearances for the Scottish club.

He spent the latter half of last season at Sparta Rotterdam and was again loaned out to Stromgodset in the summer transfer window.

Two of his goals for Hibs came in a Scottish Cup game last year against Motherwell and McManus admitted that performance showed that he definitely has the ability to find the back of the net.

However, the former Hibernian forward is not convinced that Melkersen has the physicality to perform at a consistent level in Scotland and is likely to do better somewhere else, away from the spotlight.

McManus took to Twitter and wrote: “He has ability showed it v Motherwell in the cup when bagged a couple of great goals.

“I’m not sure he is suited to the physicality of Scottish Football but he might do really well/flourish elsewhere out spotlight.

“Said it so many times our top league is a league that is very unique.”

Melkersen is scheduled to return to Hibernian at the end of the year when his loan at Stromgodset expires.
