Liverpool suffered their first defeat of the season against Tottenham Hotspur, where they went two men down before conceding late on.

The Reds have seen sendings off in three of their seven Premier League matches so far this season.

However, Aldridge pointed out that Liverpool have defended better with ten men and believes that with the quality in their forward department, they can win more matches if they can improve their defending with eleven men.

The former Reds star also stressed that Liverpool have solved their midfield issues in the summer transfer window and thinks that they have a solid team on their hands.

“When we’re down a man we defend better”, Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.

“If we can take that into matches when we’re not a man down and get clean sheets, the firepower we’ve got up top will win them for us.

“These incidents will only increase our siege mentality, only make us more united, as most of these matches it feels like we’re playing against 12 men.

“And I tell you what, we’ve got a proper team on our hands.

“We missed that natural midfield player, now we’ve got a handful.

“Going forward, the options we’ve got are brilliant.”

Jurgen Klopp’s side will take on Union Saint-Gilloise on Thursday in a Europa League fixture at Anfield.
