The 19-year-old winger joined Leeds last summer and turned heads with his performances, scoring twice and assisting four goals.

This season, Gnonto has featured eight times for Leeds so far but has struggled to replicate last season’s performances and is not being picked regularly.

In the game against Huddersfield, Gnonto came on as a substitute in the 70th minute but failed to impress McCormack with his display.

The former Whites star believes that the young Italian international is the type of player who needs regular game time to show what he is capable of, and he admitted that Gnonto did not meet his expectations.

“He is probably one of those wingers who needs to play almost every game and he’s not really had that”, McCormack said on BBC Radio Leeds.

“He did not struggle today, but it was not what you expect of Willy Gnonto.”

Gnonto has registered one goal and one assist so far in the league and he will be determined to get his form back soon.
