Howe is being forced to deal with injuries to several key players as his squad move towards a key part of the season.

Sven Botman has been undergoing treatment for an injury in the Netherlands and Alexander Isak is still undergoing rehabilitation for a problem.

Harvey Barnes is likely to be fit after the international break but ahead of the Bournemouth game on Saturday, Callum Wilson is dealing with a tight hamstring as well.

However, Howe stressed that he does not want to highlight the injury issues a bit too much at the moment.

He insisted that the players who are fit and available to play are still good enough to get results for Newcastle.

The Newcastle boss said in a press conference: “I don’t want to build it up to be any more than it is.

“I want to focus on the game.

“The players we have that are fit I still believe are good enough if we are at our best levels.”

Newcastle are sitting sixth in the Premier League standings on 20 points.
