17-year-old Archie Gray started and impressed at the start of the season in the middle of the park alongside Ampadu.

But the teenager is now being used as a full-back and Kamara and Ampadu seem to have locked down the spots in the middle of the park.

The duo were brilliant in Leeds’ win over Leicester last week and Matteo conceded that it is hard to see how Gray gets another chance in midfield any time soon.

He pointed at the hard work and the miles the two midfielders cover that has made Leeds one of the most energetic midfields in the Championship at the moment.

The former Leeds star said on LUTV: “We have got so much energy now in midfield.

“Ampadu and Kamara, wow – those two.

“I feel sorry for Archie Gray because I am sure he wants to play in midfield but those two are forming a really good partnership.

“The work ethic between those two, they are all around the park.”

Kamara and Ampadu are likely to start again when Leeds take on Plymouth Argyle at Elland Road on Saturday.
