The Merseyside giants made significant changes over the summer to overhaul their squad, especially in the middle of the park.

Former captain Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keita, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain and James Milner left Liverpool in the last summer transfer window.

The Reds brought in Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch in the last window to overhaul the midfield.

Lucas, who made close to 350 appearances for Liverpool, admitted that Liverpool are a new-look team with young players.

He stressed that the new players are already the present of the club and he is looking forward to watching them develop in the next few years.

The former Red said on LFC TV: “They are a new team with new and young players.

“I think we have started really well.

“Especially in midfield, the club made a lot of changes and so we are looking forward to seeing these young players develop.

“They are already the present of the team but they will be the future as well.”

Liverpool are sitting third in the Premier League table on 24 points, three points behind league leaders Manchester City.
