Eddie Howe wants to further strengthen his squad in the winter transfer window and a central defender is on his wish list.

Sven Botman’s injury has affected the squad and the Newcastle boss is looking at bringing in a centre-back in January.

Inacio is a player that is standing out at Sporting Lisbon and he has Premier League interest, with Liverpool recently sending a scout to watch him in action.

Newcastle also like him and, according to Portuguese outlet Desporto ao Minuto, the Magpies are not letting go of the idea of signing Inacio.

The 22-year-old has continued to impress the Newcastle recruitment team and he is one of their top targets.

Newcastle will look to probe the potential of taking the defender to the North East of England in January.

However, Sporting Lisbon are not prepared to sell him for less than his €60m release clause, which Newcastle are not ready to trigger at the moment.

It has been suggested that a move in January is unlikely but he is almost certain to leave Sporting Lisbon in the next summer transfer window.
