Hodgson is currently under pressure at Crystal Palace after a poor run of results for the Eagles and his side are due to play host to Liverpool this weekend.

The former Liverpool boss will look to cause a shock against the Reds to start to turn Palace around and Klopp admits he is always surprised that the veteran is still managing.

Klopp revealed that as a player when studying tactics, he came across Hodgson for the first time and was delighted when he was able to meet him in the Premier League.

The Reds boss dubbed Hodgson an outstanding person and a really nice man.

Klopp said at a press conference: “When Roy was in Switzerland, my former manager showed us a lot of videos of him. It was Arrigo Sacchi and Roy Hodgson actually. That is the first time he crossed my way.

“I am really pleased I met him here in the Premier League because he is an outstanding person and a really nice man.

“But always when I see him I ask him ‘what are you doing here, still?’

“But he looks happy, enjoys it, not happy with losing games, but with his job, so I couldn’t respect him more.”

Liverpool are in superb form in the Premier League and would go top of the table if they can pick up all three points against Hodgson’s Crystal Palace on Saturday lunchtime.
