Former Hibernian star Stuart Lovell is of the view that Hibs are in need of winning the game against Hearts, but warned Nick Montgomery’s side that the Jambos are in good form.

Hibs suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of St. Johnstone in their last game and missed out on an opportunity to get into the top four.

Now they are set to take on Hearts, who are third in the league table and have secured back-to-back wins against St. Mirren and Celtic, on Wednesday at Easter Road.

Lovell believes that Hearts have the edge over Hibernian going into the game considering the Jambos’ recent form.

The former Hibs star admitted that Hibs need to win the game more than Hearts but issued a warning to the Easter Road outfit about Steven Naismith team’s recent momentum.

“I am surprised that Hearts are not a clear favourites given that they had two outstanding results”, Lovell told Sky Sports.

“I mean, winning at home against St, Mirren, that was a battle for third place and Hearts obviously have very much their nose in front.

“Fantastic win for Hearts at Celtic Park, the only team to win there in the league this season.

“So you would think they had momentum going into it.

“We used to say that home advantage counts a lot, but I am not sure it does anymore, so I think Hibs need to win the game a lot more than Hearts, but Hearts are going into it in better form.”

Hearts have not won a game against Hibernian in their last three meetings and Naismith’s will be determined to break that run
