Portsmouth have put in enquiries to probe the possibility of signing Ipswich Town defender George Edmundson, according to the BBC.

John Mousinho’s side have collected just one point from their last two games but are still sitting at the top of the League One standings.

The Portsmouth manager is keen to add to his squad in January to further consolidate their position at the top and keep themselves in a good place to earn automatic promotion.

Mousinho wants to add more depth to his defensive options and the club are looking at several centre-backs.

It has been claimed that Edmundson is one of the players Pompey are keeping an eye on ahead of the winter window.

Portsmouth have already probed the possibility of doing a deal to sign the Ipswich defender next month.

The former Rangers star contributed to Ipswich’s promotion campaign in League One last season but has fallen out of favour this term.

He has made just two appearances in the Championship for the Blues, who are sitting second in the standings.

It remains to be seen whether Portsmouth’s enquiry leads to an offer to sign the defender in January.
