Marseille are sceptical about whether they would be able to afford a deal to sign West Ham United winger Said Benrahma, even if the player is attracted by the move.

Benrahma is on the radar of a host of clubs ahead of the opening of the January transfer window, with significant interest from France.

The 28-year-old is struggling for regular game time under David Moyes at West Ham and has often been an option off the bench.

Marseille are admirers of Benrahma and are looking for a winger to add to the ranks in January.

They are keeping a close eye on his situation at the London Stadium, according to French sports daily L’Equipe, and joining the club appeals to Benrahma.

The winger’s camp are looking at a loan with an option to buy, which could be triggered if Marseille qualify for the Champions League.

However, Marseille are sceptical about having the finances needed to cover Benrahma’s demands.

The club’s wage bill is being strictly watched by the authorities until the end of the season and there is limited wiggle room.

Marseille’s best chance of landing Benrahma would look likely to come from player departures to make space.
