Former Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst is poised to take over at Besiktas, but may not be able to land the assistant he wants.

Van Bronckhorst led Rangers to the Europa League final and went close to winning the competition with the Gers.

He struggled to build on the achievement though and Rangers parted ways with the Dutchman in November 2022.

Van Bronckhorst has yet to return to the game following his exit from Rangers, but is closing in on the Besiktas job.

However, according to Dutch outlet Voetbal Primeur, Van Bronckhorst is experiencing difficulty bringing in his preferred assistant.

Van Bronckhorst wants NAC Breda boss Jean-Paul van Gastel at his side.

NAC Breda though are not playing ball and want to keep hold of Van Gastel.

It is suggested that Van Bronckhorst is prepared to wait to be able to appoint his trusted colleague.

Besiktas are prepared to pay compensation to appoint Van Gastel, with the coach himself open to the move.
