Aidy White has stressed the importance of Leeds United improving their form away from home if they are to get promoted to the Premier League this season.

Leeds recorded a comfortable win at Elland Road on Monday when they hammered Birmingham City 3-0, a result which cost Wayne Rooney his job.

However, Leeds’ away form has been patchy at best this season and they have lost their last three games on the road against Sunderland, Preston and West Brom, respectively.

Leeds have an away trip to Peterborough United in the FA Cup third round on Sunday and White believes that the Yorkshire giants must see it as a chance to get better on the road and should not take it lightly.

He insisted that Leeds must find a way to get better results away from home if they want to get promoted.

The former Leeds star stressed that just being good at home while dropping the ball on the road is not going to be enough this season.

White said on BBC Radio Leeds: “It’d be nice to see us do well away from home, even if it’s at Peterborough in the cup and that game should not be taken lightly.

“Can we carry on that form?

“Our home form has been fantastic but we really need to pick up away from home as that’s going to be the thing that gets us promoted.

“Can we pick that up rather than slacking while being a fortress at Elland Road?

“We need more than that now.”

Leeds’ next league game is an away trip to Wales to take on Cardiff City on 13th January.
