Leeds United are not keen to use an international loan slot to send Joe Gelhardt to either Celtic or Rangers this month, according to Football Scotland.

Gelhardt is expected to head out of the Elland Road exit door in the winter window on a loan deal as he seeks the regular game time he is not getting at Leeds.

A host of sides are showing real interest in a player who impressed while on loan at Sunderland last term.

Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers are amongst them, but the pair look to have a hurdle towards any other deal which may be impossible to overcome.

Leeds currently have just one loan slot outside England available and they are not planning to use it for Gelhardt.

That means Celtic and Rangers would have to convince Leeds to change their plans or hope that a Whites player currently on loan leaves the club permanently this month or heads back to Elland Road.

Robin Koch is due to sign for Eintracht Frankfurt permanently in the summer and it appears unlikely the Germans would bring forward that deal.

It has been speculated that Brenden Aaronson, who has struggled at Union Berlin, may be brought back.
