Sheffield Wednesday want to send Newcastle United loanee Jeff Hendrick back to St. James’ Park to free up a loan space, but a return is unlikely for the Magpies star, according to the Star.

The 31-year-old midfielder signed for Newcastle on a free transfer from Burnley in August 2020.

Hendrick has made 27 appearances for the Magpies in his career and is down the pecking order under Eddie Howe.

Sheffield Wednesday were in search of an experienced midfielder in the summer and agreed to a season-long loan with Newcastle for Hendricks.

Hendrick played ten times for the Owls in the league this season, but he has been out of favour under boss Danny Rohl.

The Owls are reshuffling their squad and it has been claimed that they want to send Hendrick back to Newcastle to free up a loan spot.

However, it has also been suggested that a termination of Hendrick’s season-long loan deal is unlikely.

The Newcastle star is currently nurturing himself back from an injury and it remains to be seen whether the Owls will be able to convince the Magpies to take him back.
