Barry Ferguson is of the view that Rangers boss Philippe Clement must sign a winger and a striker in the ongoing transfer window.

Rangers have been linked with several players in the ongoing window and Clement has made his first signing as Gers boss in the form of Fabio Silva from Wolves on loan.

The Belgian tactician has also authorised summer signing Sam Lammers to join Utrecht on loan, despite Danilo and Kemar Roofe being injured and Abdallah Sima being unavailable due to his participation in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Ferguson hailed Clement’s decision to let Lammers, who was struggling to find his feet at Ibrox, leave on loan as good management and believes that the Rangers boss made the decision to free up wages for potential signings.

The ex-Gers star also pointed out that Clement will need to focus on beefing up his forward department this month with several players being absent and stressed that the Rangers boss must sign a winger and a striker in the ongoing window”

“That’s [letting Lammers leave on loan] good management in my book and I’m also positive he has made that decision to free up some wages for at least one more January signing”, Ferguson wrote in his Daily Record column.

“Possibly even two. As things stand – with Kemar Roofe and Danilo still months away from returning and Abdallah Sima off to the Africa Cup of Nations – he needs to bolster his options in attack.

“Yes, he has the likes of Rabbi Matondo and Scott Wright who can operate in the wide areas but, let’s be blunt, these guys weren’t starters going into the window.

“Both of them make a bigger impact when they’re coming on from the bench.

“That means Clement must have an eye on a winger and I also believe he’ll be in the market for a striker to challenge Cyriel Dessers.”

Rangers are set to return to action on 20th January in the Scottish Cup against Dumbarton and it remains to be seen whether they will be able to make additions to their squad before they resume their season.
