Former Liverpool star Xherdan Shaqiri has admitted that he is hoping that the Reds will be able to lift the Premier League title this season.

Liverpool are at the top of the Premier League table with 45 points from 20 games and are unbeaten in the league since their last defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur in September.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently two points clear of second-placed Manchester City, who are aiming for their fourth straight title.

Shaqiri was part of the last Liverpool team to lift the Premier League trophy in the 2019/20 season and featured seven times in the league during that campaign.

Ex-Liverpool star Shaqiri, who currently plays for Chicago Fire, admitted that he is hoping that Liverpool will be crowned the Premier League champions this season.

“I hope [Liverpool win the Premier League] and I always follow them”, Shaqiri told reporters.

“I just came back from England where my house is still my house.

“Actually I wanted to go to watch a game, but I couldn’t because I was with my whole family at home and we watched it on the TV.

“I’m really looking forward to this season and hopefully they can lift the trophy.”

The 32-year-old winger featured 63 times for Liverpool and scored eight times while assisting nine goals.

Liverpool are set to face Bournemouth at the weekend before facing Fulham in the EFL Cup semi-final on Wednesday.
