Former Premier League and England star Stewart Downing has joined the Under-21s coaching staff at Leeds United.

 

The Whites have had Scott Gardner working as caretaker head coach of the Under-21s since November; he previously worked with the Under-18s.

 

Now Leeds have handed Garner the Under-21s job on a permanent basis and are strengthening his backroom team.

 

 

 

The Whites have confirmed that former Premier League and England winger Downing will work with Gardner.

 

Downing is taking the job of assistant coach with Leeds Under-21s.

 

 

The 39-year-old, who finished his career at Blackburn Rovers in 2021, earned 35 caps for England during his playing days.

 

Downing turned out in the Premier League and counts Aston Villa, Liverpool and West Ham United amongst his former clubs.

 

 

He will now be bidding to pass on his experience of the very highest level to the youngsters at Leeds.
