Blackburn Rovers are poised to lose out to Orlando City to the signature of Viking defender David Brekalo on deadline day.
It emerged this week that Blackburn are in talks with Viking for the signature of the 25-year-old Slovenia centre-back this winter.
Rovers even tabled a loan plus option to buy bid worth around £2.25m to £3m to take the defender to Ewood Park before tonight’s transfer deadline.
However, Orlando City were also reportedly trying to get a deal done with Viking as well for Brekalo’s signature.
According to Norwegian outlet Nettavisen, the MLS outfit have succeeded in working out an agreement with Viking for the signature of the centre-back.
Orlando City have agreed to pay a fee of £2.34m to Viking over several instalments as part of the agreement.
If the transfer goes through and Brekalo completes the move to Orlando City, it would represent a record sale for a Norwegian club.
The fee could go up to £2.64m if the defender hits certain targets and the add-ons get triggered.
