Former Scotland defender Mark Wilson has stressed the impact Philippe Clement has made on Rangers and the mood around the club since he took charge of the team in October.

Rangers are trying to gun down Celtic in the title race and are now just three points behind them in the Scottish Premiership standings, having played a game fewer.

While Celtic are second-guessing themselves after a poor transfer window and a draw at Aberdeen, Rangers look like a team in command and the mood inside the club is brimming with confidence.

Wilson pointed out that Rangers looked shell-shocked even a few months back when Michael Beale was sacked but insisted that Clement has looked and talked the part as Gers boss from his very first day.

He believes the Belgian deserves massive credit for the impact he has made in a short period of time while Celtic have dropped off in terms of their performance levels.

The former Bhoy said on Clyde 1’s Superscoreboard: “You only have to go back four or five months ago.

“Rangers were beaten at home to Aberdeen, away to St. Mirren and another in Cyprus – they were a shell of a team.

“The difference Clement has made is staggering.

“We are kind of called it as what Rangers needed was a manager with a bit of authority, who was a winner and knew how to get the club back on track.

“Since he has set foot in Ibrox – in his press conferences he says what he means, he looks like a guy you don’t want to mess with, he implemented his style quickly but the most important thing is – he is getting results.

“He has changed the mood amongst the fanbase and with that came along the way Celtic started not being perfect.”

Rangers could go to the top of the Scottish Premiership table if they beat Aberdeen at home on Tuesday night.
