Richard Keys has told Liverpool they need to sit Jurgen Klopp down and find a way to keep him at Anfield beyond this season.

Klopp dropped a bombshell on Liverpool earlier this season when he revealed that he intends to step down from his job in the summer.

The German tactician is intending to take a year’s break to recharge batteries which he claims have been drained during his time at Anfield.

Keys believes that Liverpool need to pull out all the stops to keep Klopp, even if that means drastically changing the way they operate and the amount of time he needs to be at the club.

The veteran presenter insists that Klopp is simply too important a figure for Liverpool to just allow him to go and a conversation must be held to find a way to make the job work for him.

“You know what I would do?”, Keys said on beIN SPORTS.

“I’d sit Jurgen Klopp down and I would say ‘what do you want?’ because you’re not leaving.

“So tell us how we accommodate what it is that makes this job possible for you to continue in it and we will do that.

“If it means you’ve got to take Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday off some weeks that’s fine.

“If you want to live in Mallorca in your big new house that you’re building that’s also fine.

“But you are too big a character in and around this club for us to allow to leave and that’s not happening.

“So you tell us what we can do to make sure going forward that you are happy in this job.”

Liverpool have started to look for Klopp’s successor, while they are also in the market for a new sporting director.
