Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson has admitted that now ex-Sunderland boss Michael Beale might not be cut out to be a manager and he should consider becoming a first-team coach again.

Beale’s reign as Sunderland manager came to a screeching halt after just two months when the club decided to sack him on Monday.

There were tensions behind the scenes and the weekend’s 2-1 defeat at Birmingham City spelt the end of his time as Sunderland manager.

Beale also lasted just a year at Rangers before he was sacked in October last year following a poor start to the season in Scotland.

Ferguson stressed that the Englishman remains a highly-respected coach, but conceded that maybe he is not cut out for the step-up in management.

The former Rangers star feels that Beale should consider returning to the game as a first-team coach somewhere else.

The Rangers legend said on the Go Radio Football Show: “You want to see every manager be successful, but it just didn’t happen.

“No doubt he is a good coach, he is thought highly of in the game and maybe the management side just isn’t for him.

“Maybe look to the future and go back in as a first-team coach.

“12 games, four wins, two draws, six defeats – who’d be a manager? Crazy.”

It remains to be seen where Beale gets his next opportunity after disastrous spells at Rangers and Sunderland.
