Dominic Matteo has warned Leeds United that Sheffield Wednesday are high on confidence and will see the Whites as a big scalp.

Leeds are just two points off the last automatic promotion spot and with ten games remaining, they are eager to finish the season on a high note.

Daniel Farke’s side are set to face their Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday, who have won their last four league games on the trot, at Hillsborough tonight.

Matteo is of the view that the Owls’ confidence will be supreme due to their new-found form and stressed that, with the Hillsborough crowd at their back, Sheffield Wednesday will be up for the challenge.

The former Whites star warned Leeds that the Owls will be fired up when they take on Farke’s side, as they are seen as a big scalp in the division.

“I think with Sheffield Wednesday, after four wins on the bounce, you must be playing with colossal confidence”, Matteo told Leeds United’s official media.

“Couple of clean sheets in the last couple of games, I think they will come feeling like the fans are getting behind them.

“I played them myself as a player; it is a great atmosphere at Hillsborough and players will be up for it.

“I mean, why would you not be?

“It is a big scalp to come and play against Leeds if you can get something, so again, we have to guard that, we have to look after each other.”

The last time Leeds met Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough in 2020, the game finished with a 2-0 scoreline in favour of the Owls.
