Celtic are unlikely to join the race for the signature of Blackburn Rovers attacking midfielder Sammie Szmodics this summer, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The 28-year-old Ireland midfielder has had a fine season at Blackburn with 33 goals in all competitions and is now being linked with a move away from the club.

Several clubs have been keeping tabs on a player who scored for fun in the Championship this term ahead of the summer transfer window.

It has been claimed that clubs have already made an enquiries for him to get information on his asking price.

Celtic have been linked with an interest in him but it has been suggested that they will not take part in an auction for Szmodics.

The Scottish champions are in the market for a midfielder and the Blackburn star has been looked at by them.

However, given the money Blackburn are likely to demand, Celtic will likely not pay such figures for a player who is 28.

Szmodics is expected to have takers given his goal exploits, with 27 Championship goals in the campaign.

Celtic though are only likely to pay big figures for younger players who could be later sold for a profit in the future.
