Derby County are set to secure a defender from Liverpool on a loan deal, according to the Times.

Rams boss Paul Warne has been looking to strengthen his centre-back options and the club have been linked with free agent Liam Cooper.

They could still sign Cooper after the transfer window closes, but are racing to bring in a defender from Liverpool today.

Derby have a loan agreement in place to sign Liverpool defender Nat Phillips.

Phillips faces a season of limited game time if he stays at Anfield as he is well down the defensive pecking order.

A move to Derby is in the offing and the centre-back will be aiming to play on a regular basis in the Championship at Pride Park.

Phillips spent the first half of last season on loan at Scottish giants Celtic.

It is suggested that the loan does not contain any option to buy for the Rams, with Phillips under contract at Liverpool until 2026.
