Former top flight star Andrew Shinnie is of the view that Celtic new boy Luke McCowan is a top player and thinks that he will be a great signing for the Bhoys.

In order to introduce depth and strengthen the midfield area, Celtic signed the 26-year-old midfielder from Dundee in the summer, beating Hibernian to his signature.

At the weekend, McCowan came off the bench in the 80th minute of the game against Hearts and scored Celtic’s second goal to help them seal a 2-0 win.

Shinnie admitted that he is happy to see McCowan registering his name on the scoresheet against Hearts and hailed him as a top player.

He believes that many people thought that McCowan would not be able to get many minutes at Celtic with him being down at the pecking order and expressed his confidence in the midfielder’s ability to do great for the Bhoys.

“I was really happy for him [to score against Hearts], he is a top player”, Shinnie said on the Scottish Football Podcast.

“I think people sort of thought he would not get many minutes when he joined Celtic, not written off, but thinking he will have midfielders ahead of him.

“But I think he will do great for Celtic.”

McCowan joined Celtic on deadline day and he will be looking to make sure he makes a telling contribution to their Champions League campaign in the coming weeks.
