Wigan manager Owen Coyle is continuing his promise to deliver fresh faces at the DW Stadium, after Newcastle United defender-cum-midfielder James Perch was signed on a four-year deal.

Perch spent three years at St. James’ Park, and had impressed enough with his versatility to earn himself 52 Premier League games over the last two, after a slow start in 2010/11.

The former Nottingham Forest man becomes Coyle’s fourth summer signing since he took over from Roberto Martinez, and moves over from Tyneside for an undisclosed fee.

"The prospect of helping to get the team promoted was really appealing and I can’t wait to meet the rest of the boys and get started", he told the club’s site.

"I think Wigan Athletic are a great club and after speaking with the manager, his ambition and determination to take the club back to the Premier League where it belongs is something I wanted to be a part of.

"It feels great to be here with a new challenge ahead of me, and I’m very excited at getting that started."

The swift changes this summer are expected to be part of Wigan’s quest for a quick-fire promotion, whilst also competing in the Europa League next season.

Thomas Rogne, Stephen Crainey and Chris McCann have already committed themselves to the Latics cause, while Coyle yesterday revealed striker Arouna Kone had expressed a desire to leave for Everton.
