Atletico Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld has admitted he would be happy if countryman Kevin De Bruyne arrived at the club in January.

De Bruyne has slipped well down the pecking order at Chelsea and with the World Cup on the horizon is desperately looking for first team football.

A whole host of clubs in Germany, where he enjoyed a successful loan spell at Werder Bremen last season, are keen to offer him refuge, but Atletico Madrid have also been mooted as being in the mix.

And De Bruyne's fellow Belgium international Alderweireld would be happy to welcome him to the Vicente Calderon.

"It would be great if he came to Atletico in January", Alderweireld, who joined the Spanish club in the summer, was quoted as saying by Tutto Mercato.

"Kevin is a great player, a really good worker in midfield.

"If he decides to leave Chelsea he will have to move to a team where he can play regularly because the World Cup is coming."

Atletico Madrid already have one player on loan from Chelsea in their ranks in goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Also a Belgium international, Courtois is currently on a third season-long loan at the Copa del Rey holders.
