Everton have confirmed the retention of centre-back Sylvain Distin for an additional season, after he penned a new deal at Goodison Park.

Distin, who extended his deal around the same time last year, would have seen his contract expire in the summer.

The 36-year-old has been a consistent performer for Everton this season, and has now committed himself until the summer of 2015.

The news comes just a few days after Leighton Baines extended his contract, and Distin told the club website: "It was one of my targets to carry on playing, to keep fit and stay at Everton, so I’m really happy.

"It was an easy agreement but I thought it would be any way. I never had any intention to leave and I’m happy where I am.

"I feel comfortable and the manager and chairman are happy with what I am doing, so there was no question of doubt in my mind that we would find a solution."

Former Manchester City defender Distin has been at Everton since the summer of 2009 and boasts 177 appearances for the Merseyside club.
