Everton forward Steven Naismith has insisted that Everton are very much in the mix to qualify for Europe next season, following their 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Toffees, who were drubbed 4-0 in the Merseyside derby on Tuesday, were staring at their second consecutive league defeat after Leandro Bacuna gave the Villains a first-half lead at Goodison Park.

However, Naismith came off the bench to equalise in the 74th minute before Kevin Mirallas struck the winner for Roberto Martinez’s side 11 minutes later.

And the Scotland international feels it was a good victory for Everton, who are currently fifth in the Premier League, especially after their disappointing loss at the hands of their fierce local rivals Liverpool.

The 27-year-old, who stressed the importance of every single point in the league, further added that his side are keen to keep pace with the teams at the top-end of the table.

"We're still right in the mix. Losing heavily in a derby is never nice and we wanted to come back from that”, Naismith explained to his club’s official site.

“But with where we are in the league, you want to keep up with the teams at the top too.

"We've got to believe we can do it and take that into every game.

"This week just goes to show that each game you go into, there can be so much change at the top – and at the bottom – so you've got to believe that every game you go into, even if you only get a point, it's going to make a difference for you."
